1 year since
Today it is 1 year since we lost our beautiful boy, Kissers. I know people will be thinking "he was just a cat" but he wasn't. He was our best friend. He was a massive help with my mental health, he knew when I needed him. I would sit on the sofa and he would jump up and fall asleep on me. We trusted each other.
We took him to the vets because he was losing weight but wouldn't stop eating. He was diagnosed with an over-active thyroid and given medication. That worked so well and he put the weight back on. I can't remember exactly what happened next but we ended up back at the vets and they decided to run more blood tests and do a scan. Turns out our beautiful boy was full of cancer and there was nothing that we could do, it was too far. We were given steroids and told to just let him live his best life. They told us to stop giving him cat food and start giving him tuna, chicken, cheese, whatever we knew he liked. So this is what we did. We really thought we would have more time with him, but it was days. He slowly started finding it harder to walk and could no longer get upstairs at bedtime. We started leaving him downstairs, thats where his food and water was, but he just laid on the mat by the front door all night, every night. Then, on 1st April last year, it was time. I was off work for the week. My husband brought Casper up to me when he left for work and said he wasn't sure if he could move properly. I told him to go to work and I would look after him. Our poor boy couldn't stand up. I carried him downstairs and he just laid on me all day, looking at me with his huge dark eyes. I called the vets and explained, we all agreed it was the right thing to do. We took him that evening and it broke our hearts. We found an incredible Pet Crem in Clay Cross and I called them to tell them what time we would be arriving with Kissers. They had a private room all set up for us, laid him on a blanket and told us we had as long as we needed to say goodbye. We collected him a few days later and took his ashes to Chatsworth Gardens for the day with us. The sun was shining, it was unseasonably hot, it was such a lovely day.
Give your 4 legged family members an extra special cuddle and a treat tonight, you never know when it might be the last chance you get.
