To bake or not to bake
So I used to absolutely love baking cakes. Every chance I got I would bake a cake or cupcakes or muffins. Now I cannot remember the last time I baked anything. Life gets in the way! Its my husbands birthday tomorrow and I need to remember to got to the shop on my way home from work to BUY him a cake!
I have made cakes for all sorts of occasions. Someones birthday in the family, I baked a cake. Someones birthday at work, I baked a cake. I hadn't even met my stepdaughter when I first made her a birthday cake. I used to enter the charity baking competitions we used to do when I worked in an office and I would win. I even got asked to go on Bake Off Extra Slice, but I couldn't work out the logistics of getting down to London on the train with a massive cake.
My biggest cake achievement was when my sister asked my make her three-tiered wedding cake. I took a week off work to do all the baking and decorating, then helped the wedding planner to get it all set up in the venue. I was so proud. It was biggest cake I have ever seen. Bottom tier was Lemon, middle tier was Vanilla and top tier was kept for the Bride and Groom so it was their favourite salted caramel flavour. All the flowers matched the flowers in my sister bouquet and my mum made a stitched sign to go on the top. A family effort.
It felt like a full circle moment, as my sister made me some amazing birthday cakes when I was a child, so for her to ask me to make a cake for such a special occasion was so lovely.
I would love to think that the baking bug will come back to me, I am sure all my family think the same!
